Publication ethics
The principles of publishing in Slavica Slovaca are applied in accordance with the Code of Ethics for Publication Practice, which is defined in the documents of the international forum Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE):
(1) The author of a study/article (hereinafter referred to as the author) is obliged to submit to the editorial board of the journal only such a manuscript that is his/her original scientific work, the content of which is consistent with the focus of the journal and meets all the formal requirements prescribed by the editorial board. Upon request, the author must prove that the work is his/her original scientific work. If the author has used sources from other authors in the work, he/she is obliged to cite them correctly and completely. Plagiarism in any shape or form is considered by the Editorial Board to be unethical behaviour and is unacceptable.
(2) The author is obliged to submit to the Editorial Board only a manuscript that has not yet been published elsewhere. The author undertakes not to submit the manuscript for publication in another journal or any other publication until the publication procedure has been completed. By submitting a manuscript, the author acknowledges that he/she is the sole copyright holder of the article; in the case of a joint work by several authors, the lead author is responsible for the proper and complete attribution of all co-authors, including the consent of the other co-authors to the submission of the manuscript to the journal. All those who have made substantial contributions to the article must be listed as co-authors. Submission of manuscripts to multiple editors, as well as failure to respect the copyright of other authors, is considered by the Editorial Board to be unethical behaviour and is unacceptable.
(3) The author of an article must use an argument built on an objective basis that presents the objective results of his/her scientific research. The Editorial Board considers misleading or knowingly false statements to be unethical behavior and they are unacceptable.
(4) The author of an article is required to disclose to the Executive Editor any conflict of interest related to the submission of his/her manuscript. Failure to disclose a conflict of interest is considered unethical behavior by the Editorial Board and is unacceptable.
(5) By submitting a manuscript, the author consents to the publication process and specifically to its submission for double blind peer review or further evaluation by the Editorial Board. If, after submitting the manuscript, the author discovers a serious error or other serious inaccuracy in his/her article, he/she is obliged to inform the Executive Editor. The author is obliged to cooperate with the Executive Editor in this matter and to provide him/her with the necessary expeditious assistance to ensure that the serious error or other serious inaccuracy is corrected or that the article is withdrawn from the publication process. These obligations also apply to the author when a correction is published in an article that has already been published. Failure to disclose a serious error or other serious inaccuracy or to cooperate is considered by the Editorial Board to be unethical behaviour and is unacceptable.
(6) By submitting a manuscript, the author grants the Editorial Board the right to publish the manuscript in both print and electronic form free of charge. The author also agrees to the inclusion of the article in all databases in which the journal is or will be included. The author also agrees to include his/her name, surname, place of work and contact e-mail address in a footnote in his/her article.
Review procedure
(1) Review is an integral part of formal scholarly communication. The role of the reviewer is to assist the Editorial Board and the Editor-in-Chief in deciding whether to publish or reject a manuscript as part of the publication process. The aim of the review is also to assist the author of the manuscript in recommending refinements or revisions. The reviewer is required to disclose any conflict of interest to the Editor-in-Chief and the Executive Editor.
(2) The reviewer must ensure that all information contained in the manuscript remains confidential. The Editorial Board considers the manuscript to be confidential material. Exceptions are granted by the Editor-in-Chief of the journal. Substantial information or ideas obtained during the review process are also considered confidential and therefore must not be used to gain personal advantage for the reviewer.
(3) The journal's editorial board expects authors who have published in the journal, or who wish to publish in the journal, to review manuscripts by other authors. If a proposed reviewer does not feel professionally erudite or anticipates that he/she will not be able to complete the review by the deadline for any reason, he/she is required to inform the Executive Editor of this fact.
(4) The review procedure is anonymous on both sides. The reviewer is obliged to prepare the review objectively. He/she is obliged to follow the principle of equal treatment. The reviewer prepares the review personally to the best of his/her knowledge and conscience.
(5) The reviewer is obliged to notify the Editor-in-Chief and the Executive Editor without undue delay of any circumstances that may warrant rejection of the manuscript. The review itself must be conducted objectively and decently; personal criticism of the author is unacceptable. The reviewer must express his/her views in a professional, clear, understandable manner and must adequately support them with relevant arguments. The reviewer is obliged to identify data and information that the author has misquoted or not quoted at all. The reviewer must draw to the attention of the Editor-in-Chief, in the form of a statement, any similarities or overlaps between the manuscript under review and any previously published article or other publication of which the reviewer is aware. This statement must be duly documented by the reviewer.
(6) If the manuscript does not pass the publication process, unpublished information contained therein may not be used in the reviewer's own research without the express written permission of the author. The reviewer may not use information obtained during the course of the review for his or her own or another's benefit or to disadvantage or discredit the author.
(7) Compliance with the reviewer's duties shall be monitored by the Executive Editor and the Editorial Board. Failure to comply with the Reviewer's Code of Conduct is considered by the Editorial Board to be unethical behavior and is unacceptable.
